About Us

We are the Johnson Family. Party of two.

We met in September 2012 and discovered an odd similarity in our digestive systems early in our dating period when we ate pizza (one of our favorite foods) and had stomach aches promptly after. Being on a date with bloated tummies is never fun and so we talked about how we each thought we may be lactose intolerant or have some form of digestive issue with dairy. Fast forward to September 2014, Matt (handsome man on the left) had a week of less than ideal symptoms after eating very dairy heavy meals. He was tested and diagnosed with Helicobacter Pylori, more commonly known as H. Pylori.

Because the symptoms for H. Pylori were similar to digestive problems I, Gina, was having I asked to be tested for it as well and we found we both had it. We went through a round of antibiotics and hoped we were in the clear. After treatment I could eat yogurt again without having any issue and it was great because that meant I could restore the good bacteria that the bad bacteria, H. Pylori, had been fighting.

It is now February 2015 and we have found ourselves in another pickle. Since the diagnosis of H.Pylori and subsequent treatment we have yet to feel 100%. This past week we went to a Gastroenterologist who, after reviewing Matt's symptoms and what he has been treated for was just as confused as we were as to a starting point. He came to a conclusion that Matt's body needs a reset of sorts, where we can pull out certain food items and then after a period of time add them back in to determine how much of these foods Matt's body can handle. Because it is much easier to do something like this with support and I have had similar yet not as sever digestive problems, I am doing this "diet" with Matt.

For the next 6 weeks we will be eating a low FODMAP diet, hence the title of FODMAP-ing. It seems a bit like a maze to figure out what we need to do and during our research we haven't found enough information that makes us feel like we've got this. We want to share our experience with a low FODMAP diet to help others with digestive problems who are looking for direction.

We are not medical experts, we simply have digestive problems and have been asked to do this diet as a way to determine what foods are not being digested properly. This is only a guide and we highly recommend you consult your doctor or a GI for more information, and to determine if this is a good plan for you to follow.
